Pine Crest Upper School student Noa Dobzinski ’25 presented her collaborative research at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) annual conference.

ARVO is a society dedicated to ophthalmology and other vision-related topics. Their annual conference is the largest eye and vision organization in the world.

Noa’s research focused on determining the causes of eye pain in individuals. “There are many causes of eye pain,” she said, “such as injuries to the cornea (ocular surface) or infection, and these examples are easily identified upon a clinical examination of the eye.”

“However, in other cases, the eye looks clear upon examination, but the individual still feels sensations of pain, dryness, and discomfort. We worked on methods to improve the identification of such causes, focusing on metrics like aftersensations and functional magnetic resonance imaging brain activity to identify when nerve hyperactivity underlies ocular pain.”

As one of the most prominent conferences in ophthalmology, Noa said, “I was interested in attending to hear others' research and potentially present my research. I submitted my project to the conference with the hopes of either presenting a talk or poster, and I'm very grateful that I had the opportunity to give a talk about my research.”

Congratulations, Noa!
