Members of the Pine Crest Upper School jazz band traveled to Boston, Massachusetts recently.

“The purpose of this tour is to expose our jazz students to the art of improvisation,” said Mr. Jamie Roth, Pine Crest School Band Director. “We had the opportunity to perform with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Jazz band, and learned how these highly motivated university students balance their academic lives while devoting themselves to a high level of musicianship in the MIT jazz program.”

Dr. Fred Harris, director of bands at MIT, conducted a rehearsal and clinic session for students.

During the visit to Boston, students toured the New England Conservatory of Music and the Berklee School of Music and were given an exclusive private workshop on “Exploring the Creative Self Through Improvisation” by two internationally-renowned jazz bass players, Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey.

The weekend ended with a performance by the Atlas Soul Band at the Regattabar Jazz Club at Harvard Square in Cambridge.
