Pine Crest Middle School Science Research Students Win First Place at Florida Junior Academy of Scie

Pine Crest Middle School students, Rhea Mahesh ’30 and Rihaan Meher ’30 received first place prizes in their respective categories of research at the Florida Junior Academy of Science Conference.


Rhea received first place in the biological sciences division for her work titled “Impacts of Native vs. Invasive Host Plants on Ophryocystis elektroscirrha Parasite Infections in Monarch Butterflies.”


Rihaan received first place in the environmental sciences division for his work titled “Increasing Efficiency and Decreasing Contamination: Classifying Recyclable Materials using Convolutional Neural Networks."


The Florida Junior Academy of Science Conference aims to introduce, encourage and accelerate pre-college students in the professional world of science, engineering, mathematics and technology.
