Pine Crest Upper School students competed in the Harvard Model Congress conferences recently.

Students debated both foreign and domestic policy issues, drafted bills, and in one case, a new Constitution. Students argued on behalf of drafted bills, and shepherded them through to final passage.

“In doing so,” said Mr. Gary Freidman, Upper School Social Science Instructor, “they perfected invaluable public speaking, analytical and critical thinking, and collaborative skills. They gained a deeper understanding of both the process and substance of the American government.”

Pine Crest students played their roles as senators, representatives, Supreme Court justices, CIA officials, and others involved in the American political system with a high level of dedication, interest, and excitement.

Six students were recognized for their superior performance with awards. Congratulations to Evan Cholerton ’20, Andres Restrepo ’21, George LeMieux ’21, Charlize Cruger ’21, Maya Cacenco ’21, and Michelle Rubin ’21. This was Evan’s third consecutive year being recognized.
