The Pine Crest Upper School robotics teams, led by Head Coach Mr. John Powers ’03, Upper School Mathematics Instructor and Assistant Coach Mr. Nicholas Lowe, Upper School Mathematics Instructor, had a successful FIRSTⓇ Tech Challenge season.
All three Upper School teams competed and achieved their highest-scoring matches during the final tournament, with the Crown Joules advancing to the playoffs in the afternoon ranked 6th in the league.
The Crown Joules, led by William Marks ’25 (coach), assisted by Jake Taubman ’25 (driver), Carter Hamaway ’27 (driver) and Dennis Colak ’25 (human player) ended in the 4th place alliance with a 21-3 record for the season. They also won first place for the Control Award, which celebrates a team that uses sensors and software to increase their functionality during gameplay.
The Jouled Gauntlets, led by Ana-Lisa Vigil-Benitiez ’27 (coach), assisted by Sadie Markowicz ’28 (human player), James Swanson ’27 (driver), Kai Cortadellas ‘28 (driver) and Sam Anidjar ’27 (driver) ended with an 8-8 record and ranked 23rd in the league.
Finally, the Joules of Wisdom, led by Lucien Bret ’27 (coach and driver), assisted by Derin Kalkuz ’28 (driver), Anish Kaza ‘28 (driver) and Adam Tobel ‘28 (driver) ended with a 5-6 record and ranked 28th in the league.
Additionally, Ana-Lisa was declared a Dean’s List Semi-Finalist for encapsulating the values of FIRST. She will participate in interviews as part of the Florida Championship to qualify as a finalist.
