Three Pine Crest students received 2022 Broward County Non-Public School Association Pinnacle Awards for their exemplary character and for setting an example for other students to follow.
Pinnacle Awardees excel in one or more of the following areas: academics, community service, citizenship, fine arts, athletics, student activities, perseverance, effort, dedication, commitment to positive goals, improvement in performance, and attitude. Congratulations to this year’s Pine Crest recipients: Annabella Johnson ’29, Isabel Moreno ’26, and Rebecca Adler ’23.
According to teachers, Annabella Johnson ’29 is a true role model; she is kind, responsible, and highly respectful to her teachers and classmates. Annabella is a student council member, sings in the chorus, enjoys art, and spends her free time swimming and practicing gymnastics. She can consistently be counted on to do the right thing, even when it may not be easy, and her work ethic, perseverance, academic excellence, and positive approach to everything deserve recognition.
Isabel Moreno ’26 is a strong, socially-conscious, and community-minded student. A coxswain on the Pine Crest crew team, her teammates commonly refer to her as “Sparky,” as she motivates and leads the charge for her team during races. Her coach describes her as humble, willing to learn, and beyond all else, coachable.
Isabel feels most passionate about the arts, especially theater and dance. Her dance teacher describes Isabel as “extremely hardworking and dedicated, while also a huge supporter of her peers. She is constantly complimenting and encouraging her fellow dancers.” Isabel strives for balance in her life and is learning to be ruthless with her time in managing these two intensive disciplines along with her school work. Yet, what is unique about Isabel is her joy of learning not for the results she may achieve, but for the journey itself. One of Isabel’s academic teachers noted, “she takes time to reflect on the 'why and how' instead of merely scratching the surface. Her creativity and constant aim for excellence are admirable.”
Rebecca Adler ’23 is an excellent student who is hardworking, passionate, and respectful. She is extremely enthusiastic about her scholastic, artistic, and altruistic pursuits. Rebecca always tries to go above and beyond to approach any challenge and continuously seeks out new ways to hone her skills. Her teachers have reported that Rebecca's intense focus enables her to quickly grasp new content and her solid work ethic helps increase her ability to make connections between concepts. Within the Science Research Program at Pine Crest, Rebecca has been focusing her work on the effects of ultraviolet (UV) blocking compounds in sunscreen on coral reef systems. Rebecca is an award-winning member of the Pine Crest Orchestra and Chorus in addition to working for the community on a project with MaryAnn's Closet to encourage literacy by putting books in the hands of foster children who otherwise may not have access to them. Rebecca is a wonderful example of a thoughtful, intelligent, and focused individual who continuously impresses her teachers and peers.
