Pine Crest Upper School students in the three-year science research program presented their original research at the International Forum for Excellence in Research (IFoRE) recently.
At the inaugural IFoRE conference, which took place in Alexandria, Virginia, students participated and presented their original research over three days. The conference showcased key thoughts from scientists, engineers, students, artists, and supporters of science worldwide through discussions and demonstrations of excellence in the research enterprise.
“Students applied to either the poster or speaker competition, and were accepted to present based on submission of their research abstract and report,” said Mrs. Katherine Ganden, Pine Crest Science Research Instructor. “Students presented their work along with high school, undergraduate, and graduate research students from across the country to academic judges and experts in their fields.”
Six students—Rebecca Adler ’23 (speaker division), Hadley Edwards ’23, Zachary Harpaz ’24, Sydney Krusch ’23, Joshua Martoma ’24, and Daniel Wilentz ’23 (poster division)—placed first in their respective categories and were awarded honorary membership in Sigma Xi, the oldest scientific honor society.
“Students engaged in thought-provoking conversations and breakout sessions with scientific experts from across the world,” said Ms. Jennifer Gordinier, Science Research Instructor. “They excellently communicated their understanding of the sophisticated science behind their work and the significance of the results they have generated.”
Congratulations!
