On Tuesday, April 30, Type One, Pine Crest’s official student newspaper, earned first place for "Best Web Dynamics" in the High School Journalism Awards sponsored by Teen Link, the Sun Sentinel, and Forum Publishing. Judges looked for dynamic interactive elements, use of social platforms, and best use of audio and video to provide interactivity for readers. Sammie Spector was honored with a Staffer of the Year award for her outstanding work this year as co-editor in chief of Type One. Sammie handled the day-to-day running of the paper from scheduling weekly staff meetings, making sure writers and section editors met deadlines, copy edited nearly every article, and motivated staff to write more relevant and hard-hitting articles. And, one of our staff writers, Ruchika Sharma, who also writes for Teen Link, earned first place for best Sports Writer for her work on Teen Link.
