Athletic Alumni

This was the 64-year-old’s fifth attempt at swimming the 103-mile stretch; her first attempt was in 1978.

When she came out of the water on Sunday, Diana said, “I have three messages. One is we should never, ever give up. Two is you never are too old to chase your dreams. Three is it looks like a solitary sport, but it takes a team.”

Alumna Claire Livesay Heard ’70 commented:  “I was on the beach in Key West cheering her on.  Great Panther pride!  I was so proud of her.”

Diana was inducted into Pine Crest’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1983, which honors student-athlete alumni who made an outstanding contribution to athletics at Pine Crest School.
