Upper School Awards & Achievements

Nine (9) Pine Crest School seniors from the Class of 2021 have been nominated as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Each year, approximately 600 candidates are named semifinalists who are then forwarded to the Commission of Presidential Scholars for further review. The Commission selects up to 161 U.S Presidential Scholars for recognition, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.

Application to become a U.S. Presidential Scholar is by invitation only. For the academic component of the program, students must have scored exceptionally well on the SAT or ACT. Scholars are chosen for leadership and service to school and community. They demonstrate exceptional scholarship; visual, creative, and performing arts talent; and accomplishment in career and technical fields.

If circumstances permit, all scholars will be invited to Washington, D.C. in June for the national recognition program, featuring events and enrichment activities including the presidential scholar’s medallion presentation during a White House sponsored ceremony.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. A committee evaluates candidates on their academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership and service activities, recommendation, and an analysis of their essay.
