Pine Crest Middle School students Skylar Klarsfeld ’25 and Katelyn Anagnoste ’25 earned first place at the Cadena Social Entrepreneurship Competition recently.
Students in the eighth grade Innovation wheel course had the opportunity to compete. They were tasked to solve a problem facing a vulnerable community based on a humanitarian crisis. Judges selected three groups to compete in the Florida State Competition, which was held on April 15.
Emma Supple ’25, Catherine Chappell ’25, Katelyn Anagnoste ’25, Skylar Klarsfeld ’25, Eliza Gulley ’25, Caitlin McGinn ’25, and Sophia Wang ’25 were chosen to participate at the state level. Skylar and Katelyn addressed illiteracy by creating the liteRIGHT, a book to help children and adults in impoverished areas to acquire language and learn to read.
“All groups found innovative and creative solutions to some of the most serious problems in the world,” said Ivy Pisani, Pine Crest Innovation Instructor. Skylar and Katelyn were chosen as the top group and advanced to the international portion of the competition held on May 23, 2021 where they earned an Honorable Mention for lightRight.
