Pine Crest Middle School students Jewels Freedman ’26 and Raina Friedman ’26 earned first place in the SECME Engineering Generator Competition sponsored by Florida Power and Light (FPL).

Students were challenged to design and build a device that harnessed wind power and generated electricity without using any components that were already manufactured. They designed and 3D printed the base and rotor, wound 500 feet of magnet wire onto it, and connected it all to copper brushes and terminals to capture the electricity from the spinning rotor.

Congratulations, Jewels and Raina!
