Pine Crest Upper School students Jack Cole ’25 and Morgan Cole ’28 have placed in the top three teams in the ClimateScience Olympiad 2024, ranking them in an exceptional 0.008% of the 37,500 passionate young climate enthusiasts who entered the competition.

As a result of their top three finish, Jack and Morgan have received a fully-sponsored trip to present their solution at the 29th annual United Nations Climate Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan this November. The exact order of the top three finalists will be announced on stage at the Summit.

Jack and Morgan were selected after a months-long series of proposal, presentation and interview rounds. Their project focuses on restructuring the agricultural industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, which is a complex task that requires a multi-pronged solution on both a national and regional scale.

On a national level, the team proposed promoting numerous ecotourism opportunities throughout the country and utilizing proven sustainable agricultural methods to expand access to healthy food and water, modernize production and increase trade and revenue. In addition, they suggested incorporating region-specific farming reforms including applying successful Uzbekistan methods, planting newly proposed sustainable crops and implementing bespoke agricultural practices.

“Overall, we hope to fulfill the great promise of Kyrgyzstan by achieving environmentally responsible economic success while promoting inclusivity and governmental stability,” said Jack.
