Upper School Awards & Achievements

Pine Crest Upper School students won the state championship in the “We the People:The Citizen and the Constitution” recently, qualifying them to compete at the national level.

A team of students participated in the program as a component of the Political Science Post-AP Seminar course. On January 28, the students and their faculty advisor, Mrs. Trish Everett, logged into the virtual event to compete for the state championship title.

“We the People” is a simulated congressional hearing in which students serve as experts on one of six specific areas of knowledge regarding American government: historical and philosophical foundations of government, the formation of the Constitution, the evolution of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, institutions of American government, civil rights and liberties, or 21st century challenges to constitutional democracy.

“There are so many things I love about We the People,” said Pine Crest senior Lulu Ingham ’22, “We the People” Team Captain. “I love getting the chance to delve deeper into specific parts of history and government that I may not have focused on before. I like how the questions are designed to have evidence from all parts of history and current day politics in their responses.”

“I also appreciated getting the chance to learn from our judges,” Lulu continued. “Both the district and state competition judges consisted of accomplished professionals in the study of history, law, or politics. It was interesting to hear what kind of questions they had and to get advice about how to better approach questions. I can't wait to continue learning more in preparation for nationals!”

Students will compete for the national title virtually from April 22 through April 25.

Congratulations, and Go Panthers!
