The Pine Crest Upper School’s Model United Nations (MUN) chapter attended the NIRAMUN conference at Nova Southeastern University, recently.

The Model UN experience encourages students to develop diplomatic skills, including coalition-building, compromise, strategy, and empathy.

Students were tasked with drafting resolutions in two committees: "Addressing Strategies for Counter-Terrorism in the Wake of the September 11th Attacks [Historical Committee from 2003]" and "Addressing the Humanitarian Situation in Darfur." Student delegations represented the positions of different countries in debating and adjudicating these respective crises, aiming for durable conflict resolutions.

Several students earned awards of distinction as co-delegates or individual delegates:

Alexandra Bodmer ’22 (Republic of Korea)
Jake Rymer ’23 and Haris Ghulamali ’23 (Egypt)
Annelise Driscoll ’25 and Sophie Partin ’24 (Tanzania)
Gabrielle Frei ’24 and Yash Gupta ’25 (People's Republic of China)
Mehak Gadh ’25 and Avery Holzer ’24 (Japan)

“I am proud of our entire delegation for their hard work and preparation for what are undoubtedly complex political and humanitarian crises,” said Tyler Miller, Social Science Instructor, and MUN faculty sponsor.

Congratulations to all!
