Pine Crest Upper School Social Entrepreneurship students recently traveled to Newark, Delaware to compete in the Diamond Challenge.
The Diamond Challenge is the world’s top-rated entrepreneurship competition for high school students. The competition was created through Horn Entrepreneurship, which is the creative engine for entrepreneurship education and advancement at the University of Delaware. Teams from around the country pitched their social innovations and business models to industry leaders.
Six hundred (600) teams representing 55 countries competed at the event. Six (6) Pine Crest teams were chosen to pitch their projects live in front of a panel of judges.
"Pitching at Diamond Challenge in Delaware was a valuable learning experience because we received feedback from industry leaders and successful entrepreneurs on our concepts,” said Isaac Berman ’24. “An idea is only as valuable as its pitch, and there is no better way to learn that than from experience. Through this, we have gained a full understanding of how to identify a target market and find the most effective way to solve a problem and communicate a solution for that demographic.”
The Pine Crest teams competing were: Refill, Title Block, Drip, SoleSwitch, StryroStick, and Pro-Pack.
Pro-Pack makes PFAS-free paperboard food containers constructed from dry molded fiber, allowing restaurants to avoid toxic chemicals in their food packaging.
StyroStick is a sustainable craft adhesive derived from recycled styrofoam and D-limonene through solvent-based recycling.
Refill is an alternative polyester stuffing made from discarded textiles targeting the plush toy industry.
Title Block employs a unique application of blockchain technology to offer revolutionary title security in partnership with title agencies.
Drip is an eco-friendly, portable water filter using recycled synthetic fibers, activated carbon charcoal, and granulated copper.
SoleSwitch is a multipurpose sneaker with removable studs for various sports.
Congratulations to all!
